Under Two's

Our Under-Two’s room promotes the Characteristics of Effective Learning and consistently provides a safe and responsive environment where infants and young children are encouraged to explore the world around them in a way that is unique to them and their needs. Staff within the Under-Two’s Unit have a significantly unique role in influencing sensitive infants during the most formative period of their lives and have mastered a host of complex skills. Practitioners are warm and responsive, playful and able to interact on an individual’s level, and are skilful in ensuring provision stimulates learning and supports emotional wellbeing. Planning in the Under Two’s Unit is extremely flexible and celebrates the unique child. Our purpose built environment combined with the expertise of staff allows children’s learning to be child-led and meaningful.

Stepping Stones Day Nursery promotes safe sleeping. Babies under the age of 1 year old sleep in our cots on fitted bed sheets. Blankets are tucked in safely and babies are placed towards the bottom of the cots. Soft classical music allows infants to drift off to sleep in a calming environment in which they feel secure and cared for. Older babies and tweenies sleep on comfortable beds with fitted sheets. All children have their own bedding which is stored in individual bags and washed regularly.

Attachments between children, families and staff are paramount. Practitioners strive to form secure, trusting relationships with families. We pride ourselves on the attachments staff and children make and have found the transition between the baby and tweenie room to be seamless for both children and families since our renovation.

We have recognised our children to be confident and resilient children who are persistent, capable and unique. The renowned psychologist Jean Piaget introduced the idea that children actively construct their understanding of the world as they grow. Our Under-Two’s Unit and early years setting, as an entirety, mirrors this theory of Piaget’s.
